Self-aligning ball bearings have a spherical raceway in the outer ring with a center of curvature matched with the bearing center. This allows the inner ring, balls, and cage to rotate freely around the bearing center, maintaining alignment.
Self aligned ball bearings are double row, self retaining units comprising outer rings with concave raceway, inner rings with a cylindrical or tapered bore and ball and cage assemblies. Bearings are available in open and sealed designed.
They can support axial forces in both directions as well as radial forces and are available with a cylindrical or tapered bore.
Self aligning ball bearings have excellent ability to compensate for misalignments. The maximum permissible misalignment from their centre axis (Ψ) is dependent upon the bearing design, series and actual operating conditions.
Open self aligned ball bearing with brass cage can be used at the operating temperature from -30? C to +150? C, while bearings with the cages made from glass fiber reinforced polyamide are suitable for operating temperature up to +120? C.
Sealed self aligned ball bearings are suitable for operating temperatures from -30? C to +100? C depending upon the grease used and the type of seal material.
